Serendipity is a fortunate coincidence, and that’s what the publication of Scrappy Wonky Quilt Block Extravaganza (by Shannon Roudhán and Jason Bowlsby, C&T Publishing) is for me.
I’ve been working on cleaning out my fabric pantry and whittling down some of the scraps and smaller pieces in the studio. So when I was given the opportunity to check out an advance copy of Scrappy Wonky Quilt Block Extravanza, of course I said an enthusiastic “YES!” and immediately started sorting through the scrap pile.

With a dozen quilt blocks to choose from, plus an assortment of 13 projects to make, you can create a BUNCH of different projects without getting bored. I chose to start with a wonky nine-patch pillow…and had so much fun that I made extra blocks so I can try more projects later.
I appreciated the conversational yet instructional tone of the text, as well as the well-designed graphics and thorough instructions. If you’re new to improvisational piecing, this book is a terrific place to start! Shannon and Jason make it clear that “wonky” doesn’t mean “sloppy,” so they provide plenty of tips that even the most experienced quilters will find helpful.

Shannon Roudhán and Jason Bowlsby are the dynamic DIY duo from Seattle, Washington.Their award-winning designs have been featured in and on the covers of domestic and international publications and their craft, portrait, and fashion photography has appeared in books and magazines around the globe. Shannon & Jason have published 12 books including Complete Crochet Course – the Ultimate Reference Guide, Designer Crochet, Boro & Sashiko: Harmonious Imperfection, and Contemporary Kogin-zashi: Modern Sashiko Beyond Filling in the Gaps.
