What inspires you? This week, I was inspired by a bird house quilt.

As an art quilter, I learned pretty quickly about myself that I do well with an assignment that has a few constraints: a time limit, a general subject, and maybe one other limit, like size or colors. So when I find myself bored or stuck, often I’ll find inspiration in a challenge.

My quilting mojo disappeared for a little while, so I decided to jump in to a fresh challenge to kick off 2024–and hopefully to get myself “unstuck” and back to enjoying my stitching and design time.

Fortunately, Kim Lapacek just kicked off the new season of her Project QUILTING challenges with the theme Bird House, which is right up my alley! I drew, cut, and stitched the top in one afternoon. I finished up the 12″ x 24″ quilt the following day.

It’s simple. It’s a very literal interpretation of the theme. I had fun, and the Bird House Quilt Chirp Chalet is done.

And most importantly, I’m looking forward to Challenge 2!
