Jessica Skultety over at Quilty Habit hosted a quilt-a-long that started back in July. I had never participated in a quilt-a-long before, but the design looked fun and she set up a schedule with very manageable deadlines, so I decided to go for it. (A quilt-a-long is an event where the host chooses a pattern, then sets a schedule for participants to follow. The host provides the steps and offers hints and tips; participants post their progress as they follow along.)
I seem to be a bit linky-party impaired. The photos never load the way I want them to when I upload them directly. I hadn’t planned a blog post (I’m in the middle of moving over to a new host), but when Jessica e-mailed asking to see the full photo, I thought it would be a terrific opportunity to try something out that I heard about last week.
I figured since I only had the top done, if any residue was left on the fabric it wouldn’t be a huge deal. So I cut six pieces (about 2 1/2″ each) of this, which I happened to have on hand:
And I walked up to the cabin in the woods behind my house, where I stuck the quilt top onto the chimney and took some pics. I do wish I’d had someone with me to stand back and let me know if it was uneven, but it turned out okay. So I present to you, the UNFINISHED “Morning, Noon, and Night” which was pieced in the summer of 2016.
That is AWESOME! Thanks for the tip! Do you think it would hold up a fully finished quilt this large? It's a gorgeous shot and thanks so much for the full pic.
I think it will, at least temporarily. I have a number of finished quilts that I'm planning to reshoot, so I'll keep you posted!
Such a pretty quilt. Good idea with the adhesive. I always struggle with getting a quilt to hang well to be photographed.
Thank you! My favorite thing about this method is that if it's breezy, I can put a little velcro on the bottom corners to hold them down.
Great tip and BEAUTIFUL quilt!!
Thank you! I can't wait to finish it.
