It’s time for TGIFF (Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday), a recurring linky party that hopscotches from quilt blogger to quilt blogger every week!

Link up your recent quilt finishes in the TGIFF linky party at the end of the post, and be sure to come back and visit all of the links for a little eye candy and inspiration.

the pippin pillow

Back in 2019, I designed Pippin as an Island Batik Ambassador. (You can still read about it on the old blog, for the moment.) It always felt like a springtime quilt to me.

When I sent the pattern out for testing, one quilter, Lee B., went above and beyond by making a pillow to go with her quilt.

“What a great idea!” I thought, and promptly didn’t make one myself.

Fast forward to three years later, when I made one in less than a day.

I didn’t have the right size pillow form on hand, so I used my printer to scale it down to fit. The background fabrics are a black canvas and grey Essex linen for some texture contrast. Black thread (Aurifil 50wt) for the appliqué adds a “sketchy” outline that I love. The orange fabrics are both from the Benartex Fruit Punch collection–a little tough to track down, but still out there. I had fat quarters in my stash waiting for just the right project.

Using different fabrics changed my tune about Pippin being a spring pattern. Clearly it can work in any season. Next stop? A winter version!
