It’s time for TGIFF (Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday), a recurring linky party that hopscotches from quilt blogger to quilt blogger every week!
Link up your recent quilt finishes in the TGIFF linky party at the end of the post, and be sure to come back and visit all of the links for a little eye candy and inspiration.
the comfort quilt
I have a very special finish to share. This is the last of six quilts that I outsourced to my friend Jo at Block Party Quilts for longarming as part of my project to shrink the UFO parking area of my quilt studio. Say hello to the Comfort Quilt, started as part of a quilt-along over at Amy’s Creative Side to highlight a pattern from her book, Modern Heritage Quilts.
The Comfort Quilt Quilt-Along took place in 2018. I chose to use the Literary fabric collection from Crimson Tate, because the intended recipient was a school librarian (a.k.a. a superhero) who is the most supportive friend whom I’ve never met. Isn’t the internet weird sometimes?
I kept up pretty well at first. See?
But life got busy, as it does, and the blocks languished in a basket beneath my cutting table until sometime during the pandemic. The top came together quickly once it came out of the basket and off it went for quilting (since I wanted to send it off to my friend sometime this century). I love the quilting pattern Jo chose!
After the Comfort Quilt came back home, I used EQ Printable Fabric Sheets to print a custom label. I like to print my labels diagonally on half of a square, then fold the square and put it in the bottom back corner of the quilt before binding. It gets stitched down on two sides along with the binding, and I hand-stitch along the folded side.
My librarian friend received the quilt in the mail (yes, it was well-insured) and promptly texted her appreciation. I don’t think she realized until then quite how much I value her friendship, but she is intelligent and brave and beautiful and one of the best moms and educators I know.
Definitely quilt-worthy.
